About The Characters

Peeta accompanies heroine Katniss Everdeen into the 74th annual Hunger Games as the male tribute chosen from their native District 12, the most remote and marginalized district of all the subjugated districts of Panem. At the outset of the Games, Peeta publicly confesses his longtime feelings for Katniss, setting up one of the most fascinating fictional rapports of all time with his supposed arena rival.

Though Katniss and Gale have never had a romantic relationship, they share a transcendent bond, often of few words. When Katniss volunteers to participate in the 74th Annual Hunger Games in her younger sister’s stead, they both presume that bond will carry her far through the horrors she will face in the arena, and they each silently hope they’ll be reunited in safety on the other side of the ordeal.

About The Film

THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson ’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik . Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of science fiction/action novels which have developed a global following.

“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home. The Hunger Games novel has been on the New York Times best seller list for over 100 consecutive weeks. Foreign rights for the book, published by Scholastic have been sold in 41 countries.

Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have been cast as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthrone! Can I just say that I'm not happy with this casting. I will probably not watch the movie, depending on how they make Josh look like Peeta and Liam a bit younger. Oh, well I hope Lionsgate made a good decision.

In an interview with Page To Premiere and Novel Notice to promote Beastly he said that he has not read the book.

I've noticed that over at the Character Profiles a lot have been having issues with the actors I came up with to play the characters in the movie. But like I mentioned before, it is simply for fun. Doesn't mean they will play them in the film.
So I came up with a better way to make you guys happy, fill out the form below and you'll be the ones voting and giving me ideas for Katniss, Peeta, Gale and Finnick.

Q: Would you be interested in becoming a part of that project?
A: Yeah, they’re making it I think, right?

Q: Yeah they actually just started casting right now and…

Q: We were thinking you’d be a great actor for the role of Gale in The Hunger Games. What did you think about the script?
A: I think that Gale is sort of…well they’re all sort of interesting characters but Gale’s a cool one.

Q: The characters in The Hunger Games are actually supposed to be 16, and you’re probably a lot older than 16.
A: I’m a little older than 16. (Smiles)

"Um, I'm not leaning anywhere at the moment," he said (to which I responded with a groan). "I'm just... I love the books and I want to see what happens with them."

So how is he going about making the decision then?
"You don't. You kind of just have to figure out what you want to do," he said, before adding some more ambiguity into the mix, much to our frustration. "And as long as you're happy with it and you support it, you don't want to do anything that you're not supportive of, and you're not proud of."
Alex, what does that mean? When will you make the decision?
"I don't know," he said. "One day soon."

I'm more excited for him to go with Jace, and they should cast someone else for Peeta.

Game on! Lionsgate has announced to EW that The Hunger Games, the highly anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ futuristic YA thriller about scrapper Katniss Everdeen and her fight to survive a brutal reality TV contest, will be released on March 23, 2012. Director Gary Ross recently revealed to EW that he aims to go into production of the first installment of Collins’ trilogy later this spring.

Debra Zane hired as Casting Director

Casting director Debra Zane has been hired to flesh out the novel’s dystopian world for the screen. In author Suzanne Collins’s best-selling trilogy of futuristic youth fiction, the studio hopes it has the makings of a “Twilight”-size franchise.

In summing up Zane’s strengths, the studio also laid out the challenge the casting director faces with “Hunger Games.” That is, casting “the people you imagined [as the characters] but not the ones you expected,” says Alli Shearmur, president of motion picture production for Lionsgate.

Zane is a Hollywood veteran whose resume includes “Twilight: Breaking Dawn,” the coming two-part finale to the vampire juggernaut. Having worked with “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross previously on films such as “Seabiscuit” and “Pleasantville,” she was widely expected to get the job.

The filmmakers, including Ross and producer Nina Jacobson, have said they’re open to casting actors who are unknown (a relative term) in the lead roles. Shearmur says, “The movie-star elements of the franchise are the books and the characters Suzanne Collins created.” But don’t expect Zane to conduct an “American Idol” style cattle call. Instead, she’ll likely use professional channels to cast a wide net. The stated goal: creating a level playing field for candidates ranging from, say, a promising young theater actor to an emerging screen star.

How Gary Ross Became 'Hunger Games' Director

Ross wasn’t an obvious choice to helm the dystopian fantasy, the first from a series of bestselling books about a 16-year-old girl forced to compete to the death in a cruel arena game. His prior films as director are the 2003 horse-racing drama “Seabiscuit” and the arch 1998 comedy “Pleasantville.” But when Ross met with Lionsgate for the first time, he brought a persuasive piece of video — interviews he’d shot of his kids’ friends explaining why the books mattered to them, and what they loved about the series’ heroine, Katniss Everdeen.

“What was amazing was how insightful these kids were about this book and about Katniss as a character,” says producer Nina Jacobson. “It was so clear that Gary was interested in what the fans cared about.”

Ross brought another unique virtue to the race, which at one point also included “Revolutionary Road’s” Sam Mendes and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” director David Slade. “In terms of his understanding of Katniss, he has twin teenage children who are a boy and girl,” says Jacobson. “I felt he understood the duality of her character. She’s not a traditional heroine in that frequently heroines are interested in love first and foremost and other things are secondary. That’s the least of her concerns. And yet, she is a girl. She’s not a boy in a dress. He seemed to understand her impulse toward self-preservation and the preservation of her family.”

The rumors are true. Director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) will direct the Lionsgate adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first installment of Suzanne Collins’ brilliantly urgent dystopian trilogy. In his first conversation anywhere about the film, which Lionsgate told EW will likely go into production in the late spring of 2011, Ross was funny, passionate, and sounded as deeply impressed and moved by heroine Katniss Everdeen as the trilogy’s ardent fans.

Ross revealed that he hadn’t yet met with any actresses but would begin those conversations shortly. Admirers of Katniss, District 12′s dark and resilient “Tribute,” can rest assured that the director won’t dumb the character down or cutesy her up for the movie. “I’ve talked to Suzanne extensively and I feel like I understand the character really, really well,” he said. “I feel like I know who that girl needs to be.”

Ross dispelled the notion that there are already leading contenders for the role. “I’ve read in the press that there are frontrunners but that’s not the case.” There has been much clamoring online to cast an unknown, a possibility Ross hasn’t ruled out. “I honestly don’t know,” he said. “We’ll cast the right person for the part. Lionsgate has been great in the respect that they don’t feel that this needs a movie star in Katniss’ role. The greatest thing about the franchise and the books being the star is that we can cast whoever we want. So we all feel like we’re just going to cast the right person.”

Another young adult franchise on sale this year at AFM was Suzanne Collins’ books “The Hunger Games” which tells the story in a post-apocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands two children from each of its territories be used as gladiators in a televised fight to the death. Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) directs this $60M adaptation.

I'm guessing my internet at home is not working. And it's the result of not blogging for days. I apologize. Hopefully my internet gets back to normal and I get back on track.

Over at Mockingjay.net. They posted an amazing video done by MainstayPro via Youtube. The video is the scene when Rue dies in the games and Katniss sings to her. The short scene is good and the atmosphere of the background is well done and the film was well directed. Hopefully, the director sees this and decides to do it with the same feel and music! The music was well chosen!

Chloe Saunders sees dead people. Yes, like in the films. The problem is, in real life saying you see ghosts gets you a one-way ticket to the psych ward. And at 15, all Chloe wants to do is fit in at school and maybe get a boy to notice her. But when a particularly violent ghost haunts her, she gets noticed for all the wrong reasons. Her seemingly crazed behaviour earns her a trip to Lyle House, a centre for disturbed teens.

At first Chloe is determined to keep her head down. But then her room mate disappears after confessing she has a poltergeist, and some of the other patients also seem to be manifesting paranormal behaviour. Could that be a coincidence? Or is Lyle House not quite what it seems…? Chloe realizes that if she doesn’t uncover the truth, she could be destined for a lifetime in a psychiatric hospital. Or could her fate be even worse…? I really liked the first book and I finished the second, The Awakening, today and I can't wait for to read the last in The Darkest Powers series. The books are a fast read. I finished the first within 3 days and the second 2. If you're looking for something good to read and you're into Young Adult novels than this is something you can pick up and read, it's worth your time.

‘Hunger Games’ Movie IMDB Opened Up

The IMDB page for the ‘Hunger Games’ film is now open to the public. I’m not sure how long ago this happened, but for the longest time it was only viewable by paid members of the website. Now everyone will be able to view it. Although, just as a warning, IMDB’s information is not always 100% accurate. We’ll let you know the final official word on all movie news. You can also check out the IMDB message boards, which are another great place to discuss with fans of the series. Although the IMDB says the movie is scheduled to be released on 2013, when we contacted Color Force (the producers) they said it was scheduled for 2012. We’ll see when it’s actually released!

Lyndsy Fonseca from 'Nikita' has Hunger Games Script

It's about time I finish a book I loved and I want my readers of the blog to enjoy something they'll enjoy too!

As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie.

It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.

I hope you enjoy this book recommendation!

It seems from the very moment it was announced Suzanne Collins’ dystopian survival novel “The Hunger Games” would be adapted for the big screen, the blogosphere has been trying to cast the lead of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen. Of course, Hollywood Crush weighed in with its own casting wishlist, as well. One name that keeps coming up is 13-year-old Chloe Moretz, who’s rumored to be a front-runner for the coveted role. So when the “Kick-Ass” star stopped by the MTV offices to talk about her latest flick “Let Me In,” we just had to ask if she was even interested in the project. The short answer: Absolutely!

Suzanne said she thought Gary Ross (rumored to be the likely director for The Hunger Games) was a great guy after having had a phone conversation with him. She also said from the indications she’s been receiving from Lionsgate and the producers, he’s “the one.”

Thus far, Suzanne said she has submitted two draft screenplays to Lionsgate, and they also have a screenwriter (Billy Ray) working on rewrites. She also said that since she wrote the books, she’d prefer to let someone else do the screenplay! However, she’s been very involved in the whole process, and they are working hard to be true to the book, although its extremely hard to condense nearly 400 pages into 2 hours of film

When we caught up with Abigail Breslin at the Toronto International Film Festival where she was promoting her movie “Janie Jones,” we couldn’t help but ask about online speculation regarding the “Little Miss Sunshine” star tackling the role of Katniss’ younger sister Prim.

“I’m reading the first one right now,” Abigail said when asked if she was a fan of the dystopian novels. “I love it.” When pressed whether she would sign on to the role of Prim if offered, Abigail sounded interested. “I love the books, so I mean, yeah…” she trailed off. (We’ll take that as a yes!)

Though Abigail is quickly become a bit too mature for the role of the 12-year-old (we never thought we’d say Abigail was too old for a part…), we could totally see the 14-year-old taking on the do-gooder role of Prim. Dye her now-red locks a dazzling shade of blonde, and she’ll be a pitch-perfect physical facsimile of the youngest Everdeen.

Is The Hunger Games the Next Twilight?

At ReelzChannel website they have a list of books that might be the next Twilight. The Hunger Games is amongst those 10 YA books.

Will it make a good movie? The Hunger Games, the name of the first book as well as the series, has the potential to be one of the best novel adaptations ever to hit the big screen. It's action-packed, violent, thought-provoking, and addictive — and, if done right, should translate well to film. It's a large-scale story with the need for some visual effects and minimal sets, but most importantly it needs actors who can convincingly play main characters Katniss and Peeta. They're war-ravaged and fighting to the death — there's no room for Paris Hilton–level acting here.

Franchise potential? There are three books in the series, each dealing with war, survival, and a terrifying dystopian future. If Hunger Games performs well in theaters, movie studio Lionsgate could find itself with a potential Harry Potter-sized six-year franchise.

I just finished Mockingjay not too long ago.

All I can say without spoiling it for others who haven't finished it that I really didn't like the ending of the book.

I thought it was rather slow at times and I would wonder off thinking and not concentrating on the story.
Now I can't wait for the director of the film to be annouced. And the cast, epecially the cast. Who isn't waiting for that?

Earlier in the week I posted a post about what I thought about the commenting in the blog and how I felt about that situation.
But why aren't you guys commenting, giving me feed back on the posts.
So far, NO ONE has at least e-mailed me for The Fan of the Week?
Aren't you guys a fan of the Hunger Games? Cause so far from what I've noticed is all the Hunger Games fans are really dedicated to the series and especially the characters.
I can't think of a reason for this action, but I have proof that I have at least 200 viewers maybe more per day.

One Year Anniversary to 'Character Profiles'

Exactly one year from today, September 7, Character Profiles was created!

WOW! I can't even start to think about the first time I started this blog.

It's been so long!

I know at the end of post it says

"More coming soon. The character for Gale I got from Jabberjays.com. For Peeta I always imagine Max Theriot. As for Katniss."

But I never really updated it with more characters.

Now I decided to make it longer and move it with completely more characters from the series!
Once the post is ready I'll give you guys a heads up!

My Point of View on Comments

So I'm checking my STATS on the blog and the blog gets around 100 viewers per day, hey I don't ask a lot from fans cause I know this is just a fan blog but I do take time to update and give you guys the weekly segments: Music Monday, Fan Art Tuesday, Weekly Discussion, Fan Video Thursday, Weekly Dream Cast, etc. and I NEVER get at least one comment from a viewer.

It makes me feel bad that I do all this work to make this blog fun and enjoyable for the Hunger Games fans but to see that all those visitors never comment just look around and don't really give me any feedback at least to say "nice job" or "I like your blog"

Nothing.

Probably the only good and active thing on the blog is the Character Profiles which I know is good with the actors.

I really hope from now on I can see fans commenting and being interactive with the blog.

You can comment even if you don't have a blogger account just leave your name after your comment to at least let me know who you are.

If it continues I think the best thing I can do is move away from this blog and focus on something else. Even as much as I love blogging, I can't continue to blog if all my effort is not at least appreciated by the visitors/fans/bloggers.

If you're down here now and kept reading, thank you for taking your time to read my post and how I feel about the comment issue and my hardwork in putting and running this blog for you guys. I really like reading comments because it's a way for me to know that my blog is being viewed by the fans and liked, at least I hope.

Hunger Games Director/Release Date

I don't know if this is confirmed, but most things on IMDB aren't certain.
The release date, I think, has been pushed to 2013, that's too far away and people are just going to forget about it in three years.
Also it lists Gary Ross as director, again we don't know if this is confirmed. Once Lionsgate confirms everything I'll report back! Thanks to the amazing site I work with Jabberjays.com

Hunger Games Film Director(s)!

By next week I think all Hunger Games fan will be happy to know that after about 2 years of waiting, we'll finally find out what big Hollywood director will take care of our beloved series in the big screen.

EXCLUSIVE: The next big film directing job in Hollywood will be decided late next week,. That's when Lionsgate chooses a filmmaker for The Hunger Games, the first installment of a trilogy based on the Suzanne Collins novel series that many feel could be the next Twilight. I'm told that Lionsgate has gotten Billy Ray's rewrite, and will meet with three elite directors next week before making a decision. Gary Ross, Sam Mendes and David Slade have emerged as the favorites. The script has become one of those closely guarded documents which do not leave the production company's headquarters. I've also heard Andrew Adamson's name in the mix, but it appears to be down to the three I mentioned.

Since Mockingjay has debuted as #1, Scholastic will be doing a second print for Mockingjay.

In just its first week on sale in the U.S., Mockingjay has sold more than 450,000 copies in hardcover and eBook format -- prompting Scholastic to print an additional 400,000 copies. That brings the total copies of Mockingjay in print in the U.S. to 1.6 million since the book's release on August 24th.

The Hunger Games Movie Details!

The difficulty in translating the book to film is apparent; both Jacobson and Lionsgate say the movie will be made for the book’s 12- to 18-year-old core audience, and as such they want a PG-13 rating. Scholastic Press editorial director David Levithan recalled his hesitation to the premise. “Oooh, that sounds brutal,” he remembered thinking. “I will fully admit that many of us, just based on the summary, thought this was going to be quite a challenge. Not just for us, but for Suzanne.”

“And then the first book came in and we were all blown away.” Collins, who is currently on a 12-city tour to promote the Mockingjay, is still surprised by how popular the series has become. Hundreds of fans attended a midnight release party for the book at New York’s Books of Wonder, and a surprised told the waiting crowd: “I didn’t know there were so many of you until I came out.” Before writing The Hunger Games, she wrote the middle-reader series The Underland Chronicles and worked as a writer in children’s TV programming.

The mother of two from Connecticut says she was flipping between reality shows and news from Iraq three years ago when she came up with The Hunger Games. “On one channel young people were competing for money. On the next channel, young people were fighting for their lives. I was tired, and the ideas merged,” she told USA Today in an interview last September. Coupled with one of the Greek myths about Theseus—similarly about a group of young people sent into a maze to be eaten by a Minotaur—Collins formed the framework for her post-apocalyptic story.

In The Hunger Games, Katniss and 23 other contestants between 12- and 18-years-old are trapped in a massive arena until only one winner is left standing. Throughout the games, she wrestles with the idea of trying to live when it means her competitors must die. And while Katniss succeeds in defying the Capitol in small ways from within the arena, the book does not shy away from the inevitable, nor does it seem to relish depicting deaths by stabbing, insects, or worse. The test for filmmakers will be to walk the same line. “The book’s ethics are clear, and we will find a director who can handle the material in the right way,” Jacobson said. “Suzanne was rightly concerned that it had the potential to be turned into something she hated, glorifying the violence the book is meant to critique.”

“That was really our pitch to Suzanne—You don’t want the movie to become its own version of The Hunger Games,” she continued.

Collins wrote a draft of the screenplay, and Billy Ray, who wrote State of Play and is set to adapt the Fox action drama 24 into a feature, completed a polish. Producers are now searching for a director.

Lionsgate president of production Alli Shearmur collected all of the studio’s top brass to get on the phone when it came time to convince Jacobson they were in sync. “That never happens at a big studio,” Jacobson said. “We were all just really emotionally invested fans.”
